SHOCK PROTECTION FOR EVERYTHING YOU TRANSPORT

Every transport introduces risk. Road vibration, handling impacts, forklift drops and stacking loads all act on packaged equipment long before it reaches its destination. For sensitive cargo electronics, measurement systems, and precision instruments, the journey itself is one of the biggest threats to reliability.

The right isolation system protects your product at every stage, without adding unnecessary weight or complexity to your packaging.

Damping Solutions delivers protection for:

  • High-value electronics and instruments
  • Industrial and defence equipment in transit
  • Medical and laboratory devices
  • Packaged systems for international shipment

✓ Cargo arrives intact
Sensitive equipment is protected against road vibration, handling impacts and the unpredictable events that happen in every supply chain.

✓ Validated across the full transport chain
From factory handling and loading to road, air and sea transport, including worst-case events like forklift drops and pallet impacts.

No fluids, no maintenance, no failure modes
Wire Rope Dampers require zero maintenance and contain no consumable parts, making them ideal for long-term or repeated use in reusable packaging.

✓ Procurement-ready documentation
Every solution is engineered and documented to the certification standards your logistics or procurement process demands.

TRANSPORT & PACKAGING SYSTEM SOLUTIONS

Wire Rope Mounts for protective packaging

Packaged equipment experiences a surprisingly wide range of dynamic loads during transport. Road surfaces generate continuous low-frequency vibration that builds up fatigue in sensitive components over time. Handling events (e.g., forklifts, conveyor transitions, and manual drops) introduces sudden high-energy shocks that a standard foam or rubber solution often cannot fully absorb.

Wire rope mounts provide non-linear damping that responds to both conditions. Under small continuous vibration, the system behaves stiffly and remains stable. Under large shock loads, stiffness decreases and energy dissipation increases, protecting the contents without bottoming out.

Choose Wire Rope Mounts when

✓ Equipment must survive the full transport chain, including handling events
✓ A long service life in reusable packaging is required
✓ Temperature extremes during storage or shipment are a factor
✓ No maintenance or replacement of consumable parts is acceptable

Typical applications

  • Reusable transit cases for electronics and instruments
  • Packaging for industrial and defence equipment
  • Flight cases and rack-mounted systems in transit
  • High-value cargo with defined shock and vibration requirements

Don't know what your cargo experiences in transit?

Calculating the right isolation system starts with knowing the real loads. Road vibration profiles, handling shock levels and stacking forces vary significantly between transport routes, vehicle types and logistics chains. Designing purely from standard assumptions risks either over-engineering the packaging or leaving the cargo underprotected.

Our Field Measurement & Data Logging service records actual vibration and shock conditions during transport. Sensors are placed on the cargo or packaging, and the data is captured across the full route. The measured profiles are then used as the direct input for your isolation calculation. No assumptions, no guesswork.

Choose Field Measurement when

✓ The transport route or handling conditions are unknown or variable
✓ Existing packaging has caused damage and the root cause is unclear
✓ A certified test profile must be derived from real transport data
✓ You are developing a new packaging concept for a specific logistics chain

Typical applications

  • International shipments by road, air or sea
  • Supply chains with multiple handling stages
  • Defence and high-value equipment logistics
  • Packaging development and validation programs

Does your packaging require compliance with transport or shock standards?

At Damping Solutions, packaging isolation solutions are engineered and documented to the standards that matter in transport and procurement. With testing carried out in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.

✓ MIL-STD-810 (transport and handling profiles)
✓ MIL-STD-2073 (military packaging)
✓ ISTA test protocols
✓ NATO AECTP 100 / 200 compliant documentation

How do you calculate the correct isolation system for your packaging?

Our in-house calculation & simulation software analyses isolation systems under combined road vibration and handling shock loads across both time and frequency domains, including non-linear spring behaviour and repeated impact events. The output is a validated engineering report ready for your certification or procurement process.

Frequently asked questions by clients in transport & packaging

What types of equipment and cargo does Damping Solutions protect during transport?

Damping Solutions provides isolation and packaging solutions for a wide range of cargo, including high-value electronics, precision instruments, medical equipment, industrial systems, and defence cargo. Whether the equipment travels by road, air, or sea, and whether it is shipped once or hundreds of times, we engineer the isolation concept to match the specific load conditions and certification requirements of the transport chain.

What is the difference between a standard packaging foam and an engineered isolation system?

Standard packaging foam provides a basic level of shock absorption, but degrades permanently after repeated impacts and offers no damping under continuous vibration. An engineered isolation system, using Wire Rope Mounts or our Packaging Foam Damper, is dimensioned to the actual shock and vibration levels of the transport chain. It maintains consistent performance across the full service life of the packaging, whether that is a single high-value shipment or a reusable transit case used thousands of times.

How do you calculate the right isolation system if we don't have transport load data?

When transport load data is not available, we offer two approaches. The first is to design based on established standard profiles such as MIL-STD-810 or ISTA transport protocols, which define representative shock and vibration levels for different transport modes. The second is to measure actual conditions using our Field Measurement & Data Logging service, standalone data loggers travel with the cargo and record real shock and vibration data across the full route. The measured profiles are then used directly as input for the isolation calculation, ensuring the system is matched to reality rather than assumptions.

Can your solutions be used in reusable transit cases and flight cases?

Yes. Wire Rope Mounts, in particular, are designed for long-term repeated use without performance degradation. They contain no fluids, no rubber compounds, and no consumable parts, and maintain their damping characteristics across thousands of loading cycles. This makes them well-suited for reusable military and industrial transit cases, flight cases, and rack systems where consistent protection over the full packaging lifecycle is required.

Which transport and packaging standards are your products engineered and tested to?

Our solutions are engineered and tested in accordance with internationally recognised standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-2073, ISTA test protocols and NATO AECTP 100/200. All testing is carried out in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, and full documentation is provided to support your engineering, certification and procurement process. For project-specific requirements, our team can advise on the applicable standards and test profiles for your application.

Don't have operational load data for your shipment available yet?

When real-world vibration and shock levels during transport are unknown, our Field Measurement & Data Logging service records conditions directly across your logistics chain. Measured data is converted into validated load cases and shock profiles, so your isolation system is engineered to match reality, not assumptions.

Typical applications:

  • Road and air freight across international supply chains
  • Multi-stage logistics with loading, unloading and handling
  • Defence and high-value equipment in transit
  • Packaging development and certification programs
